I actually find it works better when you take the shower AFTER, just because it doesn't really matter whether or not your pores are open or your skin is soft. I used to get red bumps and ingrown hairs, so after I epilate, I take a shower and I find no bumps and no ingrown hairs because I scrub my skin really well, after.

I have the Emjoi and I LOVE IT!! But I am very blonde and fair. It hurt at first but by the time you've done everything you can't wait for hair to grow back to do it again. It's addictive like getting a tattoo. But the best part, hair doesn't grow back and you can use it when hair is short! I love love love my epilator, never waxing again... thanks for the review

yes it does work on facial hair but you cheeks will be more sensitive so you might get some spots or red bumps that might stay for a few days but will eventually go. I bought the Braun epilator and it works amazing, i was scared of the sound but i handles it fine after i tries it.! :)

@xjoeykatiee I think it actually work better on thicker hair because there is less chance of breakage so it has a better grip and pull out hair directly from the root. Hair grows back differently based on the individual but it can last up to 6 weeks or for me its more like 3.

@sakuraness Don't worry initially I had a huge problem too but, now it fine. Along with exfoliating you may want to try epilating at different angles, for example epilating up and down and in circle may cause more ingrown hairs so maybe just try epilating in one direction. Hope that helps!

Try just soaking your body in a bath for like 15 min so that your skin is so soft then just exfoliate (and i mean scrub your body down to the point that you see dead skin floating) and that should help then you can epilate again after like 12 hours, after that just keep exfoliating.

@turtledove90 That happens to me sometimes when I wait until the hair grows too long and then it ends up breaking my hairs instead of pulling it out from the roots. I would recommend epilating every couples of days so you get the hairs when they first come out, if you epilate shorter hairs then there is less of a chance of it breaking.

Is there any way to prevent the hair from cutting off? After I epilated there were so much hair that got cut off instead of pulled out from the root and it feels so stumbly when I run my hand over. It just doesn't give me that smooth feeling hair removal cream and waxing do. Any tip on that?

i have this exact epilator, except mine's green. it came with the massaging detachable head, but i don't ever use it because i find it the bead balls stop the epilator from reaching the hairs, so nothing comes off. i just use the other one. i rarely ever epilate without the detachable head though, because i feel a little more safer that way... :s

....then about 3 minutes later I noticed the bumps...loads of tiny swollen painful bumps covered the entire area I'd epilated and looked like a horrible rash. I applied some oilatum cream which I use after shaving sometimes if I get a rash. Its still painful and still bumpy. I used this after never having epilated before. I took two panadol and then started to use it on my leg....well I can tell you that it definately hurt very much indeed. I have a large tattoo that took an hour and it hurt less than using this. I did a small area on my calf for about 3 minutes (felt like 30). Straight after I did it, going over the same area like the instructions tell you, I noticed some hairs had been broken off and not tweezed out so they were stubbly, not smooth at all....

I love this thing! When I say the price, it might sound like $8, but it's really $80! Kind of steep, but very worth it. I forgot to mention in the video your hair does not have to be 1/4'' long like it does for waxing. It can be very, very short and still be grabbable by the tweezers.

@kunstinflammen I'm not sure if my leg hair would be considered coarse (no problems there), but I used this on my underarms once, where the hairs are thicker than on my legs, and holy cow it hurt. I didn't pull the skin taut and the epilator grabbed my skin and that was a tragedy! Lol. It's pretty good at picking up hairs of all sizes but you have to be sure the skin is pulled tight.

They say not to wax your bikini area in the weeks before and after your period, so it may extend to your legs too (all of your skin gets more sensitive?). You may just have very sensitive skin.

i personally do not recommend taking a shower or getting wet after epilating or waxing. Because the pores are still open. You have to let the skin relax for a while. Yeah, it sounds way more intimidating than it is. I have got it down to 15 minutes per side and I can bang it out while watching TV. Honestly, in the beginning after yrs. of shaving the hairs are way thicker and more of them. After you tweeze for a while the hairs will grow back slower (tweeze once ever like 2 weeks) and they will be WAY thinner and the beauty is no length is too short to start...i pluck hairs not even out of the pore yet sometimes.

From my experience, I have always tweezed my armpits so if your comparing it to tweezing then it does not give such great results. It does work well on longer, thicker hairs. I personally know a lot of people who epilate their armpits and love it but if your not careful it pinches the skin.

I have tried waxing ONCE before and i have to say it hurt so much that i stopped half way through one leg :/. and epilating does hurt i wont deny it but i wouldnt say as much as waxing. and whats great about epilating is that once you get used to it its really quick and easy. Hi guys sorry i havnt repluied for a while, i do know that you can get new epilators which have special attatchment heads for different parts of the body. i.e underarm, bikini line etc and yes it does get ALL the hairs on your legs(or wherever you want to epilate) and i havent had any instances of it breaking the hairs :) thanks for the comments please subscribe and request a video :D xxxxxxx

hmm, here are a few recommendations...try to avoid having to epilate the same area multiple times by cleaning your epilator more frequently bc the build up of too much hair tends to reduce the amount of hair it can pull. Also, just like how after waxing a oil is applied to reduce redness and bumps I would give that a try after epilating too, use some sort of balm or all purpose cream like lush dream cream, tea tree oil is awesome or even just a regular lotion...let me know how that turns out!

I've had my emjoi for a month with no complaints. After about two different sessions I got all my arm hair and the little hair on my knuckles. I got the thin hair on my stomach and it works amazingly! I have noticed to get all the hair you need to do it once and then go over the area a few days later to get the ones that were missed the other time.
